Five Key Points From Tinubu's Presidential Inaugural Speech

The Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Alhassan Ado-Doguwa, has revealed the region that is likely to produce the running mate to a former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Recall that Tinubu emerged as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday after defeating 13 other presidential hopefuls at the APC primary.

Tinubu polled 1,271 votes to beat the likes of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo who polled 235 votes, former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi who scored 316 votes, and Senate President Ahmed Lawan who polled 152 votes.

In an interview on Politics Today, a political programme on Channels Television on Wednesday night, Ado-Doguwa said Tinubu’s running mate might come from the North-East geopolitical zone.

The high-ranking APC member said the reason for his assertion is based on the current zoning arrangement of the ruling APC.

Ado-Doguwa said the zoning arrangement saw the emergence of the former Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Adamu, who is from the North Central zone.

The minority leader added that the same zoning arrangement saw the party choose its presidential candidate from the South West region.

He, however, disclosed that the leadership of the ruling party would deliberate on the religious factor.

Recall that a viral text message was sent to APC delegates at the Eagle Square during the just-concluded presidential primary, alleging that Tinubu has decided on a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

Reacting to the message, Tinubu denied the claim that he had chosen and endorsed a Muslim running mate for the 2023 general elections.

In a statement via his Twitter handle on Tuesday night, the former Lagos governor described the text message as false and asked the delegates and party members to disregard the claim.

We have been informed of a text message going around APC delegates at Eagles Square in Abuja purportedly from Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu claiming that with his imminent victory at the APC presidential primary and emergence as the party’s presidential candidate, the APC leader has now decided on a Muslim-Muslim ticket.

“This is nothing but a lie. It has no basis whatsoever,” the statement reads.
