2023: Lalong Reveals When APC Will Choose Consensus Candidate

Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong has said the All Progressives Congress (APC) will choose its consensus candidate before the commencement of the presidential primary election.

Lalong, Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum, made the disclosure on Tuesday during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.

The governor said the APC Governors have been doing consultations with major stakeholders of the party regarding the issue of consensus candidacy and would announce its candidate before the commencement of voting by delegates.

He said: “Consensus is possible. Right from yesterday up till today, we have been doing consultations like Mr President said, ‘I give you the opportunity, work on it.’

“The governors and the National Working Committee will continue on that consensus. As of yesterday, we were able to even reduce, made recommendations of about five persons, from 23 to recommendations of about 13 aspirants without disqualifying anybody.”

This comes hours after APC Governors submitted the names of five presidential aspirants to President Muhammadu Buhari ahead of the party’s presidential primary today (Tuesday).

It was learned that the Progressives Governors Forum submitted the names in the early hours of Tuesday.

The names included in the list are Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, former governor of Lagos State, Bola Tinubu, Governor Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti State), Rotimi Amaechi, former Minister of Transportation, and Governor David Umahi (Ebonyi State).
