2023: Atiku Widens Horizon, Considers Wike, Soludo As Running Mate

The People’s Democratic Party, PDP Presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar is reportedly considering the Governor of Rivers State Nyesom Wike and his Anambra counterpart Charles Soludo as his running mate in the 2023 presidential election.

According to sources who spoke to Premium Times on Thursday, some party leaders and associates are of the opinion that giving Wike the Vice presidency ticket would help the party in creating a united front in the upcoming 2023 elections.

They also added that the governor’s deep pocket will be an asset for mounting a strong campaign for the election.

However, there are those who are against Wike obtaining the vice presidency ticket, explaining that he lacks the temperament, maturity and comportment for a vice-presidential office.

Other party members are also insisting that Atiku nominates Anambra newly elected governor Charles Soludo.

Although Mr Soludo was a member of the PDP for several years and served as economic adviser to former President Olusegun Obasanjo who later appointed him as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, he was elected last year to his current job on the ticket of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).

But those pushing for his nomination are arguing that, as an economist, he would be most suitable for the role of Chairman of the National Economic Council, a position assigned to the vice president by the Constitution.

However it is not certain that the governor of Anambra state is ready to give up his position for that of the vice presidency.
