The Paramount ruler of the Tiv nation and chairman Benue council of chiefs, Tor Tiv, (HRM), Professor James Ayatse on Thursday said a peace and conflict resolution training be extended to subjects at the grassroots to mitigate crime in the society.

Ayatse stated this during a mediation and negotiation training for traditional rulers, organised by the Centre for Humanitarian dialogue, in conjunction with Clinengeal Netherlands Institute of International Relations.

Tor Tiv noted that Traditional rulers were at the front line in handling both Internal and External crises without prior training, hence his request for the International Experts to train them to achieve maximum result.

He requested that a special training for the traditional rulers in the area of peace, security and conflict resolution to enable them handle the persistent internal and External crises in their domain be organise and extended to subjects at grassroots to make the idea succeed.

In a statement released by the media assistant to the Paramount ruler, Fred Adamgbe, Tor Tiv lauded the Centre for Humanitarian dialogue for the priority accorded Benue state in ensuring the return of peace in the state which he described as a theatre of crises occasioned by persistent attacks by herdsmen and internal communal crises.

According to the statement, Governor Samuel Ortom through his Special Adviser on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ken Achabo, expressed that the training was coming at the time it was needed most.

The statement also quoted Ortom as lauding the organizer for the idea and commended the traditional ruler for their critical roles in ensuring peace in the society.
