Former Governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun, on Thursday formally declared his intention to join the 2023 presidential race.

Amosun, the Senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, declared his presidential bid at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja.

The lawmaker said he will be contesting to become the next president of Nigeria under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congres (APC).

The former Ogun governor will battle the APC presidential ticket with the likes of Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo; former Lagos State Governor, Bola Ahmed Tinubu; Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige and Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State.

Others are Minister of State for Education, Chukwiemekea Nwajiuba; former APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole; Governor Mohammed Badaru of Jigawa, and Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi, among others.

Amosun is expected to pick up the nomination and expression of interest forms of the ruling APC in a few days’ time.

Meanwhile, Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State has said his decision to join the growing list of presidential aspirants was not easy after rounds of consultation.

The governor made this known during his presidential declaration at the Hilton Hotel, Abuja, the nation’s capital city on Wednesday.

Fayemi promised to restructure the Armed Forces to tackle insecurity in the county well and build on the infrastructural successes of the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.

The NGF chairman disclosed that his aspiration was premised on fostering trust and building bridges to carry Nigeria into a new dawn, adding that he has the required experience needed for the presidency having occupied several political positions in the country.
