2023: Confusion As Alleged PDP Banner Declares Support For Buhari’s Minister

An alleged People’s Democratic Party, PDP, banner has generated a tension after it declared support for Senator Godswill Akpabio’s presidential aspirations in a venue at Ikot Ekpene Township Stadium.

The banner with the caption “Peoples Democratic Party, Akwa Ibom State Chapter in support of His Excellency, Chief Dr Godswill Akpabio for President in 2023” was among other banners at the venue.

According to Punch, the development threw the political class into confusion as the leader of the party and Akwa Ibom governor, Udom Emmanuel, is also running for president in 2023 on PDP’s platform.

However, the Akwa Ibom state chapter of the PDP has stated that the banner is a handiwork of mischief makers trying to use the name of the PDP to score political points.

The publicity secretary of the party, Borono Bassey, made this known in a statement on Wednesday

He said: “Their principal by reminding him that any of his political aspirations will amount to nothing if such aspiration does not come on the platform of the only Party in Akwa Ibom State – the Peoples Democratic Party.”
