PDP Reacts To INEC Extension Of Presidential Primary Election Deadline

There were heavy gunshots at the Peoples Democratic Party Secretariat, following the three-man delegate election billed across the state’s 171 political wards in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, on Tuesday evening, May 3.

The party’s Publicity Secretary, Nwoba Chika, in a statement, disclosed that the three-man delegate election could not take place in Ebonyi due to variety of obstacles the party needed to resolve in the state.

However, due to a reported chairmanship tussle between Tochukwu Okorie and Silas Onu, the three-man delegate election committee were disappointed after they arrived at the party’s Secretariat extremely early on Tuesday and were told it will not be holding.

Only one of the gubernatorial aspirants, Sen. Obinna Ogba, was seen standing outside the Secretariat with his supporters on Tuesday evening.

The three-man delegate election committee was also said to have been kidnapped in Enugu while on their route to Ebonyi, according to the Punch.

Due to the tense atmosphere, a misunderstanding ensued among party supporters, and heavy gunshots were heard at the party’s secretariat.

Security operatives were however able to calm the situation and prevent further escalation.
