Lawan Lists 9th Assembly Achievements Amid Tussle For 10th NASS Leadership

The identies of some All Progressives Congress (APC) Senators pushing Senate President Ahmad Lawan as the consensus presidential candidate of the Red Chamber have been revealed.

Naija News had earlier reported that the Senate President is expected to declare his presidential intention on Wednesday in his home state of Yobe.

An aide of Nigeria’s number three man revealed this in an interview with Daily Trust, adding that the plan to announce his ambition has been concluded.

The aide claimed that his principal is capable and experienced to turn around the fortunes of the country positively.

He had said: “All things being equal, he would pick the expression of interest and nomination forms tomorrow. There is nothing wrong with a northerner to be aspiring to succeed President Buhari. The president would be happy to have ahead of one of the arms of government succeed him.

“Let all the aspirants come out to test their popularity. What we all know is that Lawan is capable, experienced and can turn around the fortunes of the country positively. He is the candidate to beat.”

However, some of the lawmakers backing the presidential ambition of the Senate President have been identified by Daily Trust.

The lawmakers include Senator Yusuf Yusuf (APC – Taraba Central); Deputy Chief Whip, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi (APC – Niger North) and a former lawmaker who represented Jigawa North West Senatorial District in the 8th Asembly, Senator Abdullahi Gumel.

Some of the lawmakers claimed that the Senate President is being pressured to join the 2023 race by northern elders.
