Reactions As Soyinka Visit Sunday Igboho In Benin Republic

Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka on Sunday met with Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, in Benin Republic.

The leader of the Umbrella body of Yoruba Self-determination Groups, Ilana Omo Oodua Worldwide, Banji Akintoye was also at the meeting.

The meeting was held in Benin Republic, where the Yoruba Nation agitator is currently staying after being released from detention.

At the time of filing this report, the details of the meeting had not been released.

Recall that Akintoye on the 7th of March disclosed that Igboho had been released from detention.

Igboho had fled his residence in Ibadan and escaped to the Benin Republic in July 2021 after the Department of State Services declared him wanted for allegedly stockpiling arms to destabilise Nigeria.

The Yoruba Nation agitator was, however, arrested by Interpol at a Benin airport on July 19, 2021, when he tried to board a Germany-bound flight.

Igboho was, however, released on health grounds after about nine months in a detention facility in the Benin Republic.
