APC Primary: Only Two Aspirants Are Remaining In The Race - Sen. Gaya Reveals

The camp of the APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has declared that it has nothing to worry about regarding the rumoured presidential ambition of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

It submitted that while Tinubu has been making consultations and officially declared his interest in the 2023 presidency, the interest of Osinbajo in the race remains mere speculations.

Though Osinbajo has not officially declared his intention for the 2023 presidency, there are rumours that he is eying the number one political seat in the country and many support organizations have been calling on him to join the race.

On Monday, fresh reports emerged that Professor Osinbajo has informed President Muhammadu Buhari about his decision to contest the 2023 presidency.

According to the sources, Osinbajo wants to step into Buhari’s shoes to continue implementing the policies initiated by the current administration.

But the Vice President’s spokesperson, Laolu Akande dismissed the report as mere speculation.

The Asiwaju Bola Tinubu presidential campaign teams have declared they have nothing to worry about regarding Osinbajo’s reported interest in the 2023 presidency.

The Tinubu support groups said according to Daily Trust that there is nothing to be bothered about regarding Osinbajo’s ambition.

The Governors’ Advisory Council (GAC) in Lagos State on its part said it has adopted Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as its presidential candidate for the 2023 elections.

The leader of the group, Prince Tajudeen Olusi, said not only have they endorsed Tinubu but they rcommend him to Nigerians.

He said Professor Osinbajo has not made any categorical statement or intention about contesting the 2023 presidency, hence all reports about his interest can be categorized as rumours.

“I have not seen any conclusive evidence that Osinbajo is running. There are only rumours that the vice president wants to declare. Has he made any categorical pronouncement about his ambition?

“For instance, former VP Atiku has declared, visited former President Obasanjo and told the world that he is running. Others have made similar declarations but as of now, has the VP made such declaration?” Olusi submitted.

The National Coordinator of the South West Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA), led by Senator Dayo Adeyeye, said the group will take a stand when Osinbajo declares but for now, they are focused on achieving the Tinubu presidential ambition.

“We will comment when he declares,” he said.

The Tinubu Support Group (TSG) led by Hon. James Faleke, said Tinubu is the choice of the southwest and anyone contesting against him will be doing so against the wish of the people.

On his part, the spokesman of the APC in Lagos State, Seye Oladejo, said the party remains solidly behind Tinubu’s ambition and reports of members demanding the party’s ticket be given to Osinbajo are false.

“Lagos APC is aware of Asiwaju’s ambition. The other is in the realm of rumour-mongering and speculation, so there is no way our members will declare support for rumour,” he stated.
