Gunmen Attack Customs Officers Near Navy Base In Abia

An attack by unknown gunmen on the Mmahu autonomous community in Ohaji/Egbema LGA of Imo state has left seven prominent community leaders dead.

Naija News gathered that the leaders including the president-general of the community, Charles Mgaraho were all killed during the attack on Tuesday morning.

Six other leaders killed during the invasion were identified as Edeme Okoro, Issac Ojenna, Anene Funky, Chasity Paulinus, Ndubuisi Nwabuishi, and Ifeyirinwoke Junior.

An indigene of the community, Elvis Iheanacho who spoke to TheCable on the incident lamented the dangerous trend cases of insecurity has assumed in the area and generally in the country.

He said God needs to “come to our rescue and remove all the evildoers or anybody that will instigate problem in our land”.

Another source said the community is in a state of confusion as the assailants attacked the houses of the leaders and killed them one after the other.

“We are still in a state of confusion. We are yet to understand what really happened. The hoodlums invaded our community and the homes of prominent leaders of our community, killed seven of them, including the president general,” the source said.

“It was like a warlike situation yesterday. They shot indiscriminately, killed their targets; seven of them before zooming off. The incident had been reported at the police station and their bodies removed.”

The unfortunate incident has been confirmed by the Imo State Police Command Spokesperson, Micheal Abbatam who promised to release more details later.

Meanwhile, the lawmaker representing Imo West senatorial district, Rochas Okorocha has pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress to look into what the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma has been doing in the state.

The former Governor of Imo State, in a statement released through his media aide, Sam Onwuemeodo, said the state Governor has started demolition of about sixteen pedestrian bridges he constructed while in office.

According to Okorocha, Uzodinma’s administration derives its strength and joy from the suffering and tears of Imo people.

Okorocha added that the people of the state are suffering due to the anti-people policies and actions of the Imo government.
