The Policy Is In Your Best Interest - NMCN Tells Protesting Nurses

Nurses under the National Association of Nurses and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, NANMN on Tuesday marched out in their numbers to express their grievances over the lack of security for nurses in Kwara State.

The nurses who embarked on strike noted that they are working in a very terrible environment which has seen them brutalised by relatives of patients and even the patients themselves.

The unpleased workers in an exclusive interview with our correspondent stated that they love to care for their patients but they can not do this because they are been assaulted by these same people.

One of the nurses who spoke on condition of anonymity further stated that nurses in the state are overused, which sees a nurse attend to 30-35 patients.

They called on the Governor of Kwara State, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, to employ more hands as the stress is affecting them psychologically and sometimes leading to death.

The nurses noted that they are the future of this country but the stress encountered while on duty leads to brain drain, while their payment does not speak for the level of service they give in their line of assignment.

According to the nurses under NANMN, who claimed to be the least paid in the country noted that they can’t do what others are doing while their salary is not been increased.
