Sheik Gumi Is Better Than Sunday Igboho - Shagari

The Yoruba Leadership and Peace Initiative (TYLPI) has berated renowned Islamic Cleric Abubakar Ahmad Gumi over his recent trip to Igboho town in Oyo State.

Naija News had reported that Gumi alongside the former Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Health Insurance Scheme, Usman Yusuf, had visited the town last week, calling on Yoruba Nation agitators to shelve their agitation for secession.

The town is the adopted home of the embattled jailed Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.

Reacting in a statement signed by its Director of Publicity, Tunde Ipinmisho, the Yoruba group described Gumi as a busybody looking for any opportunity to drag attention to himself.

TYLPI mocked the cleric for appointing himself as mediator in the security crisis in the North western parts of Nigeria without success.

The group recalled that it was the killing of innocent lives in Igangan Oyo State, which Gumi refused to condemn at the time, that led to the emergence of Sunday Igboho.

They noted that the embattled Yoruba nation activist had risen to defend and fight for hapless people of the troubled community and other parts of Yorubaland.

By his visit to Igboho town, Gunmi has exposed himself as a busybody who would exploit any situation to draw public attention to himself and his ignoble mission,” TYLPI said.

The group warned that any attempt by the likes of Gumi to hide behind the cloak of religion to divide the Yoruba or deny the well known acts of terrorism by Fulani herdsmen in parts of Yorubaland would fail.

While the Yoruba are by nature welcoming and accommodating to visitors, those like Gumi coming with sinister agenda, should desist from making such forays into places where people have been traumatised,” it added.
