Wike Reveals What He Would Have Done If He Was The One Called Drunkard By Smart Adeyemi

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has declared that Senator Smart Adeyemi should thank his stars he was not the one he referred to as a drunkard.

Wike noted that the statement by the Kogi West Senator was a big insult and if he had been in the position of the Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu who was labelled as a drunkard, he would have retaliated.

It would be recalled that Senator Adeyemi on Tuesday, stirred reactions in the senate over his comment describing the Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu as a “champagne drinking man”.

Adeyemi while speaking on a motion on Safe School Initiative in Nigeria said Abia State is governed by “drunkards”.

The lawmaker stated this while reacting to a post on social media allegedly linked to Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, who is from Abia.

Adding his voice to the reactions that have continued to trail the declaration of Senator Adeyemi, Governor Wike on Wednesday said it was wrong of the lawmaker to have made such an uncomplimentary statement.

The Rivers State Governor who spoke during a meeting with the Senate Committee on Niger-Delta at Government House, Port Harcourt noted that Adeyemi went too far with his statement.

He said: “I watched the Senate plenary and even though you have immunity somebody will say a Governor is a drunkard.

“I was just watching the Senate President. He should have condemned it. How can he do that to a Governor? How can somebody stand up in the Senate simply because he has immunity and say a Governor is a drunkard?

“How can you stand-up and abuse a whole people that elected a drunkard. That was an insult. Anyways, that is Abia people. I wish he could say that to me one day. I will give it back.”

Meanwhile, human rights activist, Aisha Yesufu, on Wednesday accused governors and the Minister of Information of speaking for terrorists in the country.

The co-convener of the BringBackOurGirls movement in her statement also called out religious leaders for speaking for terrorists.

Yesufu made this claim while speaking at the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, annual law week in Calabar, Cross River State.

She called on professional bodies to wake up to its responsibilities of defending citizens.
