Just In: Two Killed As Herdsmen Clash With Amotekun In Ondo State

A clash between suspected herdsmen and operatives of the Southwest security outfit known as Amotekun in Ondo State has resulted in the death of two persons.

Naija News understands the incident took place on Thursday at Sanusi Village, in the Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

It was further gathered that the attackers also burnt a motorcycle as well as a patrol vehicle belonging to the Amotekun Corps.

The two persons who lost their lives during the clash were said to be a farmer and a member of a vigilante group in the area.

Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the Amotekun Corps in the state, Mr Adebayo Ayeni said in a statement that: “Men of Ondo State Security Network Agency, has again made another major breakthrough in their strive to get rid of criminal elements in Ondo State.

“This cartel were piling up arms and ammunition to invade the entire state, while masquerading as herders and using the forest as kidnappers den for negotiation and ransom, illegal mining activities and cultivation of Indian hemps.

“The security outfits in conjunction with the police, the army and other security agencies in the state however smoked them out of the forest, after it was discovered that the bandits had killed a farmer and a member of the vigilante group in the area.

“They also went to the village where an Amotekun vehicle was parked and set it ablaze.”

It will be recalled that the state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu had instructed security agents to flush out all criminal herdsmen illegally occupying the forests of Ondo State.

Meanwhile, soldiers have arrested 29-year-old Umar Muhammed for allegedly sharing false news on the killing of soldiers by Boko Haram in Borno.

The man, identified as a Civilian JTF Member at Shehuri-North in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council was said to have been arrested at his residence by security operatives.

A military source disclosed that Muhammed shared the fake news to create unnecessary panic in the mind of the public.

“This kind of fake news can create false impressions in the minds of many. From the suspect’s post, it is clear that the idea behind it was to sabotage the good efforts of the Military,” he said.
