President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday expressed sympathy and solidarity with victims of the Sokoto Central Market fire incident.

He lamented the huge negative effect the incident would have on the economic well-being of those affected by the fire.

Naija News recalls the Sokoto central market was on Tuesday morning gutted by fire which reportedly started around 7 am.

It was gathered that the fire was caused by a generating set at Kofa Yan Roba.

Reacting to the incident, the President in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant (Media & Publicity), Mallam Garba Shehu said: “I am deeply moved by this fire incident because of its huge adverse impact on the economic life of the people who struggle daily to earn a living.

“To see your investments go up in flames is particularly painful and I sincerely send my heartfelt sympathy and solidarity with all the victims, and pray to God to replenish your losses.’’

Buhari directed federal aid agencies to respond to the urgent needs of the victims of the disaster and urged market authorities to train traders and facility managers on basic safety precautions to forestall the frequency of fire outbreaks.

According to him, “once the traders are trained on the risk factors, it will go a long way to minimize the frequency of fire outbreaks at business places.’’

Meanwhile, the Osun State Police Command, on Wednesday, confirmed that the woman who was abducted between Ijesa and Erin Ijesa in Osun State on Sunday has been rescued by security operatives.

Recall that the state police command had earlier confirmed the abduction of two passengers between Omo Ijesa and Erin Ijesa along the Ilesha/Akure Expressway.

Opabola while speaking on the incident noted that the victims, a man and a woman were abducted while travelling from Erin Ijesa.

The man was, however, rescued on Monday.
