Security forces in Katsina State have rescued 18 women and five children abducted in Kwayawa village in Safana Local Government Area of ​​Katsina State.

A statement issued by the spokesperson of the Defence Headquarters, John Eneche, said that the swung into action after receiving distress calls gunmen from Wurma village in Kurfi Local Government Area of ​​the state.

The security operatives were said to have killed six of the bandits who abducted some residents of Kwayawa village where the troops launched air and ground attacks until they managed to recover 75 animals rustled by the bandits.

He also revealed that officers had successfully apprehended a suspect who was giving the gunmen personal information named Mohammed Saleh.

He was found with a handgun and ammunition, according to the statement.

The statement added that the rescued had already been handed over to their families, as well as the animals returned to their owners.

Katsina State is one of the states in Nigeria worst-hit by bandits attacks.

A month days ago, 344 high school students were abducted by suspected gunmen at a secondary school in Kankara, although they were rescued.

The incident has drawn the attention of Nigerians and the international community especially after Boko Haram claimed to have abducted the students.
