The Ogun Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps has explained how the state lost about two hundred and seventeen lives to road crashes this year.

According to the FRSC Sector Commander, Ahmed Umar, during the flag-off of the last quarter of the year “Ember months’’ campaign held in the state capital, Abeokuta on Tuesday, September 29 said the casualties were recorded in 547 accidents within January to August.

The Ogun FRSC boss explained that the command rescued over 1,338 persons in different motor traffic accidents during the period under review. Umar in his explanation blamed the high traffic on Lagos -Sagamu, Sagamu-Ijebu Ode-Ajebandele and other expressways in the state as the cause of the high record of crashes and injuries in the state.

He said, “Economic and social activities increase during Ember months, these activities make the roads busier and more prone to crashes and gridlock.

“FRSC’s Ember months operation is therefore aimed at minimising crashes and gridlocks along major corridors in the country,” Umar noted.

He, however, said that the command would continue to engage the leadership of various transport unions to ensure compliance with traffic regulations and COVID -19 protocols.

Meanwhile, five people were reported dead and eight others severely injured in a road accident in Ondo State about two weeks ago, Naija News recalls.
