The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, on Tuesday, September 29 warned against the fresh eruption of COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

The health sector in a statement by its Director-General, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, gave the warning following what it described as a deliberate refusal by some states in the country to carry out adequate testing.

Speaking in a live programme on Arise TV, Ihekweazu noted that some states in Nigeria could not give correct figures of the number of COVID-19 cases recorded in their domain.

The NCDC director, however, said he is excited that the agency has been recording fewer cases of the dreaded disease since the last six months. Ihekweazu noted that he was especially impressed with the progress made in a few states, like in Lagos State particularly.

Ihekweazu further stressed that most states have still not learned from others and so are not carrying out enough test and findings.

He said, “I am very worried that we might find an explosion in those states, which would then affect the rest of the country again”.

Meanwhile, one hundred and thirty-six fresh cases of COVID-19 were recorded in Nigeria on Monday evening, 28th September 2020, NCDC confirms.
