No less than eight people have been confirmed dead in a recent heavy flood in Katsina State.

According to the statement made available to newsmen by the State Emergency Management Agency (KSEMA), about 25,961 houses and 7,019 hectares of farmlands were affected by the flood.

The Public Relations Officer of the KSEMA, Umar Mohammed, who confirmed the incident to newsmen revealed that 17 people sustained various degrees of injuries. Naija News understands that Katsina is one of the states in the country that has been greatly affected by flood this year.

It was contained in the report that a total of 103 houses were affected by the floods in Kankara LGA, while Katsina LGA recorded the highest with 3,568 houses damaged.

KSEMA urged the Presidential Committee on Flood Relief and Rehabilitation, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to assist the victims.

This is coming a few days after heavy flood reportedly claimed 16 lives, destroyed 3,042 houses and several farmlands in Bauchi State.
