Shehu Sani Reacts As Buhari Govt Set To Ban Ponmo

Shehu Sani, the former Senator representing Kaduna Central in the upper chamber of the National Assembly has commended the decision of the United State government to implement visa restrictions against election riggers in Nigeria.

According to the former Senator, the action of the US government will help Nigeria in its quest for transparent and credible elections.

It will be recalled Naija News earlier reported that the United States Government has imposed a visa restriction on individuals for their actions surrounding the November 2019 Kogi and Bayelsa State elections.

In a statement on Monday signed by the spokesperson for the Department of State, Morgan Ortagus, the US also imposed a ban on some people in the run-up to the September and October 2020 Edo and Ondo State elections.

Although elections have not yet held in Edo and Ondo states, the Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, imposed the visa restriction on these individuals due to their conduct in the run-up to the poll.

Sani reacted to the development via a statement on his Twitter page on Monday evening where he wrote: “The US visa restrictions imposed on election riggers will help in the nation’s quest for transparent and credible elections by tackling impunity. Failure to implement genuine electoral reforms led us to foreign remedy.”
