1. Resident Doctors Begin Indefinite Nationwide Strike

The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) on Monday commenced a nationwide strike over the federal government’s failure to meet their demands.

The industrial action by the NARD is the latest in a string of strikes by medics to hit Africa’s most populous nation as it struggles to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

NARD stated that their demands which the federal government had failed to meet include a pay rise, better welfare, and adequate facilities.

“We have kicked off the strike today,” NARD president Aliyu Sokomba told Nigeria News, adding that medics treating virus cases would join the action this time around.

“There will be no exemptions,” he said.

2. Malami vs EFCC: Magu Tables Fresh Request Before Salami Panel

Ibrahim Magu, the suspended chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has tabled a fresh request before the Justice Ayo Salami probing him.

Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari had mandated the panel to investigate the former EFCC boss after the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) Abubakar Malami recommended his removal over allegations of corruption.

In a letter to the presidential panel investigating him, Wahab Shittu, Magu’s counsel, asked Malami to provide evidence of corruption against him.

He asked the committee to summon the AGF to prove the infractions he accused his client of.

Since his probe, Magu, through his lawyer, has often raised the alarm over the “unfair manner” with which the panel is operating.

3. Southern Kaduna Crisis Is Been Politicized By Some Persons – CAN Alleges

The Kaduna State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has alleged that that the crisis rocking the Southern part of the state is been politicized by some persons.

According to the state Christian body in a statement by its chairman, Rev. John Joseph Hayab, the incessant killing in the Southern Kaduna has re-awakened many citizens in the country from the slumber and are now intent on how to bring to an end the crisis by coming up with possible solutions.

Speaking during a visit to Mercy camp, Zonkwa during the last weekend, Hayab lamented that some persons are playing politics with the uncalled killings in the state by giving it different narratives.

4. Boko Haram: Troops Kill Five Terrorists, Rescue 7 Victims In Borno

Five members of Boko Haram/Islamic States for West African Province (ISWAP) terrorists have been killed by troops of Operation Lafiya Dole on Monday.

The troops confirmed that seven kidnapped victims were rescued in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

The Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. John Enenche, who confirmed this in a statement on Monday said that the troops of 192 Battalions supported by the Air Task Force, successfully raided the terrorists’ location at Hamdaga Makaranta town in Gwoza, on Sept. 6.

Enenche noted that the troops who acted on credible intelligence on the activities of the terrorists in the area overpowered them, killing five, while others escaped with gunshots wounds.

5. Nigeria’s Minister Of Education ‘Adamu Adamu Is Sick’, Flown Abroad

The Minister of Education in Nigeria, “Adamu Adamu is sick” and is currently in a hospital in Berlin, Germany, treating an undisclosed ailment.

A report monitored on SaharaReporters by Naija News says the Minister of Education is said to be having a kidney problem and undergoing a procedure but it was not totally clear at the time of this report what particular ailment he was being treated for in Germany where he has been reportedly flown to.

According to the report, Adamu’s latest trip to Germany was the third time Adamu would be flown to Germany within this period of Coronavirus outbreak for medical attention.

6. President Of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo Emerges New ECOWAS Chairman

Professor Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana has been elected the new Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

Akufo-Addo emerged as the new leader of the regional body at the 57th ECOWAS Summit on Monday at Niamey, capital of Niger Republic.

7. Hoodlums Invade Ondo State Assembly

The Ondo State House of Assembly was on Monday morning invaded by some political thugs sending panic around Akure, the state capital.

It was gathered that the thugs numbering over 100 stormed the Assembly with many vehicles.

Naija News reports that the invasion may be connected to the crisis rocking the Ondo Assembly.

However, the men of the state police command were said to have prevented the hoodlums from entering into the complex.

The security operatives mounted barricades at the entrance of the complex and scrutinized whoever was going into the Assembly complex.

8. Politically Dead Mimiko Needs Agboola’s Money – Akeredolu

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has revealed why his predecessor, Olusegun Mimiko is backing the ambition of Deputy Governor, Ajayi Agboola.

Recall that Agboola had left the All Progressives Congress (APC) after a falling out with his boss Akeredolu.

The deputy governor joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but he was not given the party guber ticket which led to him dumping the party and pitching his tent with the Mimiko’s Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).

Speaking on Arise TV, Akeredolu described Mimiko and Agboola as betrayers.

According to the Ondo governor, he is not bothered by the alignment between Mimiko and Agboola.

9. 2023 Presidency: ‘Buhari, Atiku May Collaborate To Frustrate Tinubu’ – Bamgbose

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar may parthner with President Muhammadu Buhari to stop the presidential ambition of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The claim was made by Olusegun Bamgbose, National Coordinator, Concerned Advocates for Good Governance (CAGG) in a statement on Monday.

Bamgbose noted that political stakeholders in the country are not taking anything for granted, adding that Atiku Abubakar has made up his mind to contest for the last time.

He said: “It’s very obvious that the power brokers from the North may not really trust Tinubu’s Presidency, not minding his support for Fulani oligarchy.

“The North is viewing Tinubu as someone who may eventually rebel against the North, once he gets to State House.

10. Ogun State Finally Announces Date For Schools Reopening

The Ogun State government has announced a final decision on the resumption of schools in the state amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

The state government in a statement on Monday by Kunle Somorin, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Dapo Abiodun announced the approval for schools to resume as from Monday, September 21, 2020.

The statement however noted that the resumption will be staggered, adding that children in developmental classes (between 3-5 years) will not be resuming until the next stage of the resumption.

Somorin explained that while the primary one to primary three pupils will resume for three hours between 8.00 am and 11.00 am, primary four to primary six pupils will resume at 12.00 noon and close at 3.00 pm.

The statement added that Junior Secondary School one to three pupils would also be in schools between 8.00 am and 11.00 am and Senior Secondary School one to three pupils would be in the schools between 12.00 noon and 3.00 pm.
