1. N800bn Recovered Loot: SERAP Sue Buhari

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has dragged President Muhammadu Buhari to court over the N800 billion recovered loot.

The human rights group filed the case with suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/1064/2020 at the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Friday.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by SERAP Deputy Director, Kolawole Oluwadare.

Giving reasons for suing Buhari, SERAP stated that the president has failed to give information and release documents relating to the names of people from whom N800 billion in looted public funds have been recovered, specific dates of the recovery, and details of projects on which the money has been spent.

2. Tinubu And Osinbajo Hold Private Meeting In Abuja

Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) met with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo over the weekend.

The two leaders met in Abuja, Naija News understands.

As at the time of filing this report, the purpose of the meeting could however not yet be established.

However, presidential media aide, Ajuri Ngelale who also shared the picture of the meeting between Tinubu and Osinbajo on his Twitter handle on Sunday, added a caption which reads:

“True Friendships & Partnerships Are Never Dictated By The Expediency Of A Given Moment. They Are Built Firmly Inside To Impact What Is External. Never To Be Shaped & Defined By Outside Noise.”

3. NABTEB Fixes Date For Exams Commencement

The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has fixed it NBC/NTC examinations from Sept. 21 to Oct. 15.

This was made known in a statement on Sunday by the Registrar/Chief Executive of NABTEB, Prof. Ifeoma Isiugo-Abanihe.

She stated that the National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) for JSS 3 Students’ admission to Technical Colleges would now hold on Sept. 5.

4. New NBA Faction Writes AGF Malami

The New Nigeria Bar Association (NNBA) have written to the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, to inform him of their existence.

Naija News reports that some lawyers of like minds had decided to form a new association following alleged peddling of sectional interest by the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA).

This was made known in a statement signed by Nuhu Ibrahim, Esq and Abdulbasit Suleiman, Esq, and made available to journalists on Friday.

They said the recent rumblings from the NBA was leaving much to be desired within the ranks of Concerned Lawyers especially from the Northern part of the Country.

5. I Don’t Need Your Royal Blessings – Oshiomhole Roasts Edo King

Adams Oshiomhole has lambasted the Ogieneni of Uzairue, HRH Kadiri Omogbai over the reception he and his entourage received during the APC’s campaign tour of Jattu, Edo State.

Naija News reports that as the arrowhead of the Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu governorship campaign, Oshiomhole, have embarked on a massive campaign tour of Edo North district ahead of the September 19 Edo governorship election.

Oshiomole, who hails from Iyamho, one of the communities which make up Uzairue clan, was not well received during a campaign tour of his hometown.

Reacting angrily to the perceived tacit support the state’s deputy governor, Philip Shaibu, seems to be receiving from the Ogieneni, Oshiomhole said he won his election to become the governor of the state comfortably without any form of support from his clan head.

6. Gunmen Assassinate PDP Chieftain In Bayelsa

Unknown gunmen have shot dead the Councilor representing Ward 6 Sagbama Council Area of Bayelsa State, Karma Agagowei.

Naija News reports that he was shot while returning from a PDP ward congress in Yenagoa along Opolo on Saturday night.

According to the NAN, he was taken to two different hospitals, Gloryland Hospital and Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, but was allegedly denied treatment for lack of a police report.

However, the PDP chieftain died shortly afterwards.

7. NASS Plotting To Give Fulani Herdsmen Land Through Water Bill – Ortom

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has accused lawmakers of using the National Water Resources Bill as a means of creating grazing areas for Fulani herdsmen.

Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka had last week kicked against the introduction of the water bill.

Naija News reports that Section 13 of the Bill, states thus: “In implementing the principles under subsection (2) of this section, the institutions established under this Act shall promote integrated water resources management and the coordinated management of land and water resources, surface water and groundwater resources, river basins and adjacent marine and coastal environment and upstream and downstream interests.”

In a statement by his media aide, Tever Akase, Governor Ortom wondered why the bill was reintroduced when it was rejected in 2018 by the 8th Assembly.

8. Abiru: We Are Yet To Pick Candidate For Lagos East – APC

The All Progressisves Congress (APC) in Lagos State has clarified that it was yet to chose a candidate for the Lagos-East senatorial by-election.

This was made known on Saturday by the Lagos APC Chairman, Tunde Balogun.

He stated that the APC will get candidates for both the Lagos-East and Kosofe Constituency II by-elections after the party’s primary elections fixed for Thursday.

Reports had emerged online that Mr Tokunbo Abiru, who recently stepped down as the managing director of a commercial bank, had been adopted as the APC candidate for Lago-East.

Reacting, Balogun stated that Abiru remains an aspirant and not a candidate of the party.

9. NBA President Akpata To Audit 2016, 2018, 2020 Elections

Olumide Akpata, the president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), has inaugurated an Electoral Audit and Reforms Committee to audit the body’s 2016, 2018 and 2020 elections.

Akpato, who was sworn-in on Friday, made this known in a post on Twitter on Sunday morning.

Naija News reports that audit committee would be headed by Ayo Akintunde (SAN).

The committee is expected to recommend reforms for future electoral systems and processes.

10. Brighto, Wathoni, Tolanibaj evicted from BBNaija 2020 Lockdown Show

Three contestants Brighto, Wathoni and Tolanibaj have on Sunday, 30th August been evicted from the Big Brother Naija reality TV show.

Naija News reports the housemates were evicted after scoring the lowest votes in the week’s voting for housemates by fans of the show.
