Niger Govt Slashes Salaries Of Political Appointees By 30 Per Cent

Niger State Government has slashed the salaries and allowances of political appointees in the state by 30 per cent.

Governor Abubakar Bello-led government has slashed 30 per cent of salaries and allowances of all political appointees in Niger State due to the economy downtime caused by the outbreak of Coronavirus.

The development was revealed in a statement released by the Secretary to the State Government, Ahmed Matane, on Tuesday.

The Secretary to the State Government in the statement noted that the slash in salaries and allowances takes effect immediately.

The reduction will also affect the governor, the deputy governor, commissioners, special advisers and every other political appointee.

“The reduction, which is temporary, was also in consideration of the economic situation imposed on the state by the coronavirus pandemic.”

Matane further stated that payment of full salaries and allowances would resume when the economy improves.

While regretting any inconvenience, the officers affected may encounter as a result of the reduction, he “acknowledged the patriotism, patience, and cooperation of all the political appointees at all times.”
