NIMC Says It Has Registered 900 Repentant Boko Haram Fighters

More repentant Boko Haram fighters set for re-integration into the society

No less than 900 repentant Boko Haram fighters have been registered by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

The commission confirmed the development in a statement on Monday where it noted that its action is part of efforts to provide support for government actions towards tackling insecurity and insurgency in the country.

The NIMC Director-General, Aliyu Aziz declared that the commission will continue to provide reliable and secure data of repentant Boko Haram members who have been reintegrated into society.

“The commission has the capacity to support the FG in the ongoing war against security challenges through its functional and world-class verification and authentication services residual in its modern and up-to-date database,” he said.

Similarly, John Enenche, coordinator of defence media operations noted that the registration of the repentant insurgents will ensure they are traceable.

He also described the NIMC as a partner in the government’s plan to deradicalize, rehabilitate and re-integrate the repentant Boko Haram members.

“The National Identity Management Commission is one of the agencies involved in the DRR process capturing of all repentant Boko Haram combatants on its data making it easy for them to be traced in any unfortunate incident,” he said.

It will be recalled Naija News had previously reported that the Nigerian Military disclosed that another batch of 603 former Boko Haram fighters will be reintegrated into the society by June 2020.

The repentant Boko Haram fighters will be re-introduced into their communities after completing their de-radicalization and rehabilitation the Defence Headquarters said at a press conference in Abuja on Friday, 15th May 2020.

According to the Coordinator of the DHQ’s Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. John Enenche, the programme is under the activities of the Operation Safe Corridor.
