While Edo State primaries draw near, the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state has reacted to speculations by the party’s National Chairman, Adam Oshiomhole on the mode adopted for use in its coming election, describing the former governor as being clever by half.

Oshiomhole in a recent statement had claimed that he was left blank on the party’s choice in conducting the forthcoming election in the state.

Naija News recalls that Edo State APC chairman, Anslem Ojezua, in a recent statement submit that indirect mode of election will be a better system of election to embrace most especially at this time that the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic has brought the countries of the world, Nigeria inclusive on its knee.

However, barely 20 days to the party’s scheduled day to select its flag bearer for the state’s gubernatorial election, Oshiomhole alleged that he is unaware of the governor’s preference for the indirect primaries.

According to him, the said choice fell within the realm of speculation as the party is not officially informed.

The comrade stated in his recent statement that “Obaseki is not here but issues of primaries are well spelt out in our constitution, and we are following it as strictly as possible.

“So, there’s nothing to worry about at all. You (reporters) are speculating; I don’t have any letter or document to that effect. These are very formal matters, so stop spreading rumours.”

Reacting to his claims, Anslem stated that the APC chieftain is economical with the truth for claiming that the party is not informed of Governor Godwin Obaseki’s preference for the state’s indirect primary.

He said, “it was not Obaseki’s duty to notify Oshiomhole. It was the duty of the state executive to notify the party leadership, which had been done.”

“It is not the governor’s duty to notify him. It is the party’s responsibility to do that. The governor is just a member of the state executive,” Anslem reiterated.

“I am the state chairman of the party. The state executive has communicated with him on the need for indirect primary. The man is being clever by half. It is not true that we have not notified him.”

“The state executive committee has notified him and that is all that is required. It is not the governor that will do that,” he said.
