Coronavirus: Fani-Kayode Attacks Kano Govt Over Lockdown Relaxation Plea

Former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode has lambasted Governor Abdullahi Ganduje for asking the Federal Government to relax the lockdown in Kano State.

Naija News recalls that Ganduje had pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari to ease the total lockdown imposed on Kano.

He made this plea during the inauguration of a seven-member specialised experts to support the State’s technical committee at the Government House.

On Monday, President Buhari had in a live broadcast announced the total lockdown of the State with immediate effect to stem the spread of coronavirus.

This decision was necessitated by the mass death recorded in the State.

However, Ganduje asked that the lockdown be eased urgently to mitigate the economic hardship.

According to him, Kano state people were running out of food, especially during the fasting period.

Reacting in a post on his Twitter page, Fani-Kayode wondered why the Kano governor would ask for the lockdown to be relaxed when the state keeps recording an increase in the number of coronavirus cases.

Fani-Kayode wrote: “It amazes me that the Governor of Kano can be asking for a relaxation of the lockdown in his state because of Ramadan even when his people are still dropping dead like flies.

“Did Christians ask for a relaxation of the lockdown during Easter?”

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) on Friday evening, confirmed 238 new cases of COVID-19 have been recorded in Nigeria.

According to the NCDC, 92 cases of COVID-19 was also reported in Kano State despite the 80 cases it recorded the previous day.

The latest update means there are now 2170 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria. Discharged: 351, Deaths: 68.
