1. Lagos Records Three Coronavirus Deaths

Lagos State Government led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has confirmed three new Coronavirus deaths.

Naija News reports that the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, announced the death of three coronavirus patients on the micro-blogging site, Twitter on Thursday, April 16.

2. Maryam Sanda Still In Custody, Wasn’t Granted Presidential Pardon – NCS

Maryam Sanda has not been granted presidential pardon, the Nigeria Correctional Service has clarified, adding that she is still in custody.

The service stated this while debunking reports that Sanda was part of those recently granted amnesty by President Muhammadu Buhari.

3. Coronavirus: See The Six Conditions Given By WHO To End COVID-19 Lockdown In Nigeria

The World Health Organization has given conditions that must be met by countries including Nigeria before restrictions and lockdowns imposed due to the coronavirus pandemic can be lifted.

Director-General of the World Health Organisation, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, gave the conditions on Thursday during his weekly address to Geneva-based diplomats.

4. Kwara COVID-19 Patients Test Negative, Discharged

Kwara State Government on Wednesday discharged two of its four COVID-19 patients after they have both twice tested negative.

They were discharged alongside five members of their families who were also at the state’s isolation centre and have equally twice tested negative, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq told reporters in Ilorin, the state capital.

5. Coronavirus May Spread To Every State In Nigeria – Ihekweazu Warns

Chikwe Ihekweazu, the Director-General, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, has noted that every state in the country will be affected by the outbreak of Coronavirus in the country.

The NCDC director stated this during an appearance on Channels Television’s breakfast programme, Sunrise Daily on Thursday.

6. Lockdown: 18 People Killed By Security Agencies – NHRC

Nigerian law enforcement agents have been accused by the National Human Rights Commission of taking the lives of no less than eighteen persons across the states since the inception of the lockdown ordered by the Federal Government as a means to contain the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic.

According to the commission in a statement made available on Thursday morning, 18 persons have been killed during the first phase of the lockdown, from March 30 to April 13.

7. Ken Saro-Wiwa Jnr Is Dead

Ken Saro-Wiwa Jr is dead, according to report the son of the late environmental activist died after suffering a stroke.

According to BBC, Saro-Wiwa Jr died in the UK and his death was confirmed by his sister Noo Saro-Wiwa while speaking with newsmen.

8. Coronavirus: Nigerians Need Food And Economic Boosters – Tinubu Tells Buhari

The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has urged the federal government to look beyond the current palliative measures in place for Nigerians during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Tinubu in his message to the government on Wednesday, noted that urgent steps have to be taken by the government to protect citizens from hunger and economic breakdown during this period.

9. COVID-19: Arewa Group Warns Buhari Against Giving Money To Northern Governors

President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration has been called on by the Coalition of Northern Groups not to give money to Governors in the North under the pretext of fighting Coronavirus.

CNG in its statement released through its spokesperson, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, noted that the governors would abuse such funds if given to them.

10. Nigeria Records 35 New Cases Of Coronavirus Infection

35 new cases of the coronavirus infection have been confirmed in Nigeria by the Nigeria Center for Disease Control on Thursday.

The NCDC in a tweet late on Thursday, gave the breakdown of the new cases as 19 in Lagos, 9 in FCT, 5 in Kano and 2 in Oyo.
