PDP's Ishaku replies APC in Taraba State

Governor Darius Ishaku has explained why he has been away in Abuja since December 2019 after he was accused of abandoning governance in Taraba State.

Governor Ishaku explained that he didn’t abandon the state but was forced to be away in Abuja due to an “unfortunate domestic accident.”

The Governor explained in a statement by Mr. Bala Abu, his senior special assistant on media and publicity that he is receiving medical attention in Abuja.

The statement, however, failed to disclose details of the medical condition that has confined Governor Ishaku to Abuja since 2019, neither did it give a definite time for the Governor’s expected return.

Naija News recalls before the explanation, the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state had accused Ishaku of abandoning governance in Taraba State and failing to hand over to his deputy, Alhaji Haruna Manu.

They accused the governor among other things of failure to initiate any new project, notify the State House of Assembly of his absence of transmit power to his deputy.

In his defence of the Governor, Abu said, “In the past couple of weeks, the All Progressives Congress in Taraba State, had orchestrated a campaign of hate and acrimony against the person and the administration of Darius Ishaku, the Executive Governor of Taraba State, taking advantage of the governor’s prolonged stay in Abuja, which was necessitated by an unfortunate domestic accident he had earlier suffered. As a result, His Excellency has had to stay back in Abuja to receive medical attention.

“But rather than show sympathy for the governor, the APC leaders have taken advantage of this unfortunate development to invent and promote all kinds of inanities and outright falsehood against him.”

He added that contrary to claims by the APC, no government activity has suffered as a result of the Governor’s physical absence in Taraba State.

“For example, the dualisation of the Airport Road in Jalingo which comes with an overhead bridge has started and has made steady progress even in the absence of the governor. So also is the Mararaba- Baissa-Abong-Kan-Iyaka-Nguroje Road which is the shortest road to the Mambilla Dam Project.”

“What the people expected is for the APC leaders to praise Governor Ishaku for diligently ensuring the smooth running of the affairs of the state despite his accident.”
