1. President Buhari Jets Out Of Nigeria For AU Summit

President Muhammadu Buhari will on Friday depart Nigeria for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to attend the Thirty-third (33rd) Ordinary Session of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU).

In a statement obtained by Naija News, Buhari will join leaders from the 55-member countries of the African Union to participate in the Summit with the theme, “Silencing the Guns: Creating Conducive Conditions for Africa’s Development.”

2. INEC De-Registers 74 Political Parties

Nigeria’s electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has deregistered 74 political parties in the country.

This was disclosed on Thursday by INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu at a news conference in Abuja.

3. Four People Killed As Robbers Storm Two Banks In Ondo State

The environs of Ile-Oluji in Ile-Oluji/Oke-Igbo Local Government Area of Ondo State was thrown in disarray after some suspected gunmen stormed two banks in the community on Thursday.

The report gathered revealed that the banks that were robbed by the gunmen were First Bank and Polaris Bank and they are situated in the central part of the community.

4. I’ve Kept To My Promise To End Boko Haram – President Buhari

Speaking at the official induction of Nigerian Air Force Helicopters at the Eagle’s Square in Abuja, on Thursday, President Muhammadu Buhari reiterated that promises he made during his swearing-in in 2015 are not forgotten.

The President noted that his promise to end Boko Haram and other forms of criminalities in the country has not changed.

5. INEC Fixes Date For Edo, Ondo Gov Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday announced dates for the Edo State and Ondo State Governorship election.

Naija News reports that INEC fixed September 19 for the Edo 2020 Governorship election.

It also said the Ondo State governorship election will hold on October 10, 2020.

6. Minister Of Works, Fashola Backs Sanwo-Olu On Lagos Okada Ban

The Former Governor of Lagos State and now Minister of Works and Housing Babatunde Fashola has expressed his support on the ban of Okada by the Lagos State Government at a public lecture organised by the United Action for Change (UAC) in Lagos on Thursday.

Governor of the State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu had banned the operation of commercial motorcycles and tricycles in certain areas of the state.

7. Senate Inaugurates 56-Member Constitution Review Committee

The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, has inaugurated a fifty-six member Constitution Review Committee.

The Committee which was inaugurated on Thursday will be headed by the Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege.

8. INEC Speaks On Creating Additional Polling Units Before 2023 Elections

Additional polling units would be added across the country ahead of 2023 general elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission has noted.

The Commission’s Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu gave the hint when he received Geographic Information System (GIS) support equipment donated by the European Centre for Electoral Support (ECES), in Abuja.

9. Amotekun: Group Announce Northern Security Outfit, ‘Shege-Ka-Fasa

About one month after the governors of the South-West States launched Operation Amotekun as a regional security outfit for their area, a Northern group has also unveiled their own version of the regional security set up.

Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, the spokesman of the Coalition of Northern Group (CNG) on Wednesday, unveiled a regional security outfit for the North known as “Shege-Ka-Fasa”.

10. 7.5% VAT Deductions On Voice Calls, Other Inquires Should Be Directed To FIRS – Minister

Isa Pantami, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy has noted that the 7.5 percent Value Added Tax (VAT) deductions on voice calls and text messages, were under the jurisdiction of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

He made this clarification in a statement, which was signed by his spokesperson, Mrs. Uwa Suleiman, and was made available to newsmen yesterday in Abuja.
