Presidential media aide, Lauretta Onochie, has revealed why the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) wanted to embark on strike.

Naija News reports that President Muhammadu Buhari, during the presentation of the 2020 budget proposal before lawmakers, 2019, had vowed that Federal Government Employees not captured on the IPPIS platform by 31st Oct. 2019 would no longer receive salaries.

Reacting, ASUU had rejected the deadline, saying universities operated differently from the civil service and should, therefore, not be seen as appendages of ministries, departments and agencies of government.

But in a recent interview, ASUU President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, disclosed that the union had decided not to embark on strike.

What we have been saying is that the reaction of our members will depend on what happens in the government. Our members will meet at the appropriate time to take an appropriate decision,” he said.

Reacting in a post on her Twitter page, Laureta Onnochie claimed that the proposed strike by ASUU  was “a planned revenge over the closure of the cold room”.

The ‘cold room’ is allegedly a code name for the University of Lagos Staff Club, where lecturers take female students to have fun.

Onochie tweeted: “ASUU suspends proposed strike! There was no justification for it. It was a planned revenge over the closure of the #COLDROOM.”
