It has been revealed that Arsenal had shortlisted eight managers to replace former boss, Arsene Wenger, last year.

Naija News reports that legendary Gunners manager Wenger left the North London club after 22 years in charge.

Arsenal had selected former PSG coach, Unai Emery to replace Wenger after a thorough selection process.

The Athletic reports that Emery was reportedly joined on the final eight-man shortlist by former players Mikel Arteta, Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira, as well as Massimiliano Allegri, Jorge Sampaoli, Ralf Rangnick and Julen Lopetegui.

They also claim two former Chelsea bosses, Antonio Conte and Maurizio Sarri, were discussed, as well as British managers Eddie Howe and Brendan Rodgers, but ultimately not pursued.
