Unknown gunmen on Wednesday abducted a nursing mother and her five children in Rivers state.
Naija News understands that the kidnap occurred around Igwuruta in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, South South Nigeria.
While confirming the incident, the Area Commander of Choba Area Police Command, Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP, Patrick Daaor, lamented the inhuman treatment the victims would be going through in the hands of their abductors.
The Police boss said that the Anti-kidnapping unit, the tactical units and ‘A’ grade detectives of the Rivers State Police Command have already been mobilized to comb forests and bushes to rescue the victims.
ACP Daaor made this known while speaking during a Peace and Unity summit held in Rumuolumeni in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area on Friday.
While detailing ho the abduction took place, the Police ACP said the nursing mother who breast-feeds her 6-months old baby was returning from an outing with her children on board before she was accosted by the armed gunmen.
According to him, “No medal is awarded to the “best cultists,” rather they live a life of lack of peace because they are constantly on the run.”
Meanwhile, the Community Development Committee Chairman of Rumuolumeni, Sunny Odum said the summit was organized to broker peace to avoid the repeat of what happened in April where several eople were killed in the area.
Governor Nyesom Wike had launched a renewed effort to stamp out criminality such as kidnapping and cultism in the state.
