5 Persons Killed, Houses Burnt, Several Injured In Fresh Taraba Crisis

Fresh Crisis Reported In Taraba State

A fresh crisis which broke out on Tuesday between the Tiv and Jukuns in Rafinkada Village of Wukari local government area of Taraba state has left five persons dead and several houses burnt.

Naija News gathered the development was confirmed by Mr. Daniel Adidas, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the Council in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Jalingo.

Adi in his narration alleged that gunmen dressed in Army camouflage attacked Rafinkada and set several houses ablaze.

He added that a soldier was injured in the attack and is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Wukari.

He also noted that the deployment of soldiers to the area has brought the situation under control.

The fresh attack was also confirmed by DSP David Missal, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state police command, but said only one person was killed.

“The report I have indicated that armed militia youth crossed from Benue State and attacked a community in Wukari LGA and one person was killed and some houses burnt”, the PPRO said.

Naija News recently reported Governor Samuel Ortom also called for an end to the crisis between the Jukun and Tiv ethnic groups especially on the border villages between Benue and Taraba States, warning that it has the capacity to spread further if not curtailed.
