A photo has emerged on social media, showing the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, in an unhappy state on meeting Abdullahi Ganduje, the governor of Kano state, northern Nigeria.

When both Kano bigwigs met at the Eid Prayer Ground in Kano, Governor Ganduje was all smiles when he exchanged pleasantries with Sanusi, but the Emir of Kano, on the other hand, looked moody.

Naija News reports that the meeting is the first for both Kano men after Sanusi’s status as the only first-class emir in the state was whittled by the Kano state government led by Governor Ganduje.

The government balkanized the emirate, carving out four new emirates and appointing first class emirs to rule them.

This online news platform understands that Kano state has five emirates: Kano, Rano, Gaya, Karaye and Bichi with all Emirs expected to have equal powers as well as being on the same first-class status as Emir Sanusi.

The new heads include Aminu Ado Bayero, son of late Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero, who is the pioneer emir of the newly established Bichi Emirate.

Similarly, the Emir of Rano is Alhaji Tafida Abubakar Ila, the Emir of Gaya is Alhaji Ibrahim Abdulkadir Gaya while the Emir of Karaye is Dr. Alhaji Ibrahim Abukakar ll.

The development means Kano emirate headed by Sanusi has 10 local governments: Kano Municipal, Tarauni, Dala, Nassarawa, Fagge, Gwale, Kumbotso, Ungogo, Dawakin Kudu and Minjibir.

As it stands, Rano emirate will control Rano, Bunkure, Kibiya, Takai, Sumaila, Kura, Doguwa, Tudun Wada, Kiru, Bebeji while Gaya emirate has Gaya, Ajingi, Albasu, Wudil, Garko, Warawa, Gezawa, Gabasawa LGAs.

On the other hand, Karaye emirate will control Karaye, Rogo, Gwarzo, Kabo Rimin Gado, Madobi, Garun Malam LGAs.

Similarly, Bichi, Bagwai, Shanono, Tsanyawa, Kunchi, Makoda, Danbatta, Dawakin Tofa, Tofa local governments will be under Bichi emirate.

Apart from dividing the emirate, the Emir is also facing the possibility of being suspended, this is following a recommendation by the  Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission demanding the suspension of Sanusi and his aides who are found culpable in a case of corruption in his emirate.

The commission said It discovered N3.4 billion was mismanaged and misappropriated by the emirate under Sanusi.
