1. Adamu Mohammed Confirmed As Police IG

The Police Council on Thursday confirmed Adamu Mohammed as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP).

His confirmation was disclosed at the police council meeting which was chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari.

2. Court Fixes Date To Hear Saraki’s Suit Against EFCC

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja will on June 24 hear a suit filed by Senate President Bukola Saraki contesting the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)’s decision to investigate him.

The Federal High Court had last week ordered the EFCC and other agencies to halt corruption allegations investigation against the former Kwara State governor.

3. ASUU Threatens To Commence Fresh Strike Action

Reports reaching Naija News suggest that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) might be giving signals of the possibility of a nation-wide industrial action.

This is as the members of the union has warned that its members should not be held responsible if there is any disruption in the University system.

4. Presidential Election Petition Tribunal Dismisses Suit Trying To Stop Buhari’s Inauguration

The suit filed by the Hope Democratic Party (HDP) and its Presidential Candidate, Mr. Ambrose Aworu, seeking to stop President Muhammadu Buhari’s inauguration has been dismissed by the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal.

Justice Joseph Ikyechi who delivered the lead judgment by the tribunal, said the application was struck out for lack of merit.

5. Court Convicts Ex DG Of NIMASA Over N136m Fraud

Justice Mojisola Olatoregun of Federal High Court in the city of Lagos today, convicted Calistus Obi, a former acting Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency charged with N136 million fraud.

The court has, however, deferred sentencing to a later date.

6. Osinbajo Presides Over Valedictory NEC Meeting

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is present to chair the valedictory session for the National Economic Council (NEC) holding on Thursday in Abuja.

Many of the State governors were attending the meeting for the last time as their tenures expire on the 29th of May, 2019.

7. Fayemi Elected Chairman Nigerian Governors Forum

Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State on Wednesday emerged the chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) for a tenure of two years.

Naija News learnt that Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State was also elected as vice-chairman of the forum.

8. Biafra: Police Dares IPOB’s Sit-At Home Protest

The Police In Anambra State has dared the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to observe a sit-at-home protest in the southeast, May 30.

The IPOB had planned that it would on May 30 paralyze economic activities in the South-East and beyond in a sit-at-home protest, Naija News reports.

9. Atiku Abubakar Reveals Alleged Plot Against Him, PDP

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has revealed that some individuals are plotting to drag his name and that of some personalities in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the mud.

He made this known in a statement sent on Thursday to Naija News and signed by his media adviser, Paul Ibe.

10. Man Drags Gbajabiamila To Court, Says He’s An Ex-Convict

There may be a threat to Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila‘s ambition to ascend the speaker’s seat at the house of representative as a Nigerian taxpayer, Philip Undie, has filed a suit before a Federal High Court in Abuja over his alleged conviction in the US for fraud-related offenses.

In the originating summons filed by Undie, through an originating summons by his lawyer, Barr Ayodele Justice, he submits that Gbajabiamila is not a fit and proper person to be elected as a member of the House of Representatives or Speaker because he had been convicted of $25,000 fraud by the Supreme Court of the State of Georgia, USA.
