Adebayo Akinbola, the staff of the chairman of the Mosan-Okunola Local Council Development Area (LCDA), was on Monday docked before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Akinbola, 31 who was docked for allegedly carting away a sum of N4 million belonging to the council chairman, Mrs Olabisi Olabajo, is facing a count charge bordering on stealing.

The Police prosecutor, ASP Peter Nwangwu told the court that the accused, Akinbola committed the offence at the popular new generation bank ) name withheld) in the Alimosho area of Lagos.

“He was sent on an errand to the bank by the complainant to withdraw N4 million.

“After he withdrew the funds, he absconded and was not seen for an unspecified period of time.

“The matter was reported at the Ikotun Police Station and after series of investigations, he was caught and he claimed to the police that he was abducted by unknown persons.

“The money has, however, not yet been recovered from him,” Nwangu said.

He further stated that the offence contravenes Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

In her judgement, Naija News reports that the Magistrate, Mrs Yewande Aje-Afunwa, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N850,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum. The judge maintained that the sureties must be gainfully employed and must show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos state government, while she further adjourned the case till May 2.
