New Constables To Serve In Their LGAs As Police Plans To Recruit 10,000 Officers Yearly

As part of the efforts to ensure a safe practice of the citizens’ franchise, the Edo state command of the Nigerian Police says it has deployed a total number of 7,000 Police officers to the state.

Naija News reports that the state command’s decision is to ensure the protection of lives and properties before, during and even after the elections.

The Acting Police Commissioner in the state, Olusegun Odumosu made the disclosure to Naija News on Monday during a press briefing in his office in Benin, the Edo state capital

Odumosu, however, said that aside from the figure, the Police is still making plans to send additional officers to the state. Adding that a Deputy Inspector-General (DIG), as well as three Assistant Inspector-Generals (AIGs) have since been deployed to the State for the same cause.

The police commissioner vowed that that personnel deployed have been specially trained and equipped for the election coverage, adding that the AIGs would take charge of each of the three Senatorial Districts.

Naija News found out that while striking a note of warning to the youths not to be used to distort the peace of the election, Odumosu urged the residents in Edo state not to entertain fear but to come out en mass to practice their franchise.
