1. President Buhari Swears In Tanko Mohammed As Acting CJN Amidst Onnoghen Suspension Saga

President Muhammadu Buhari has suspended the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen, pending the completion of his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal. President Buhari announced the suspension at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja today.

President Muhammadu Buhari says he suspended Justice Walter Onnoghen as the Chief Justice of Nigeria following an order from the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, asking him to wield the big stick. A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has backed the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to reject the list of All Progressives Congress candidates in Zamfara state. The court ruled that INEC acted within its powers by refusing the list of candidates from the APC for the next general elections in Zamfara State.

Arewa Youth for Democracy (AYD), a youth group in the north, has accused some leading members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), some presidency officials and members of Buhari’s campaign team particularly from the southwest of pushing President Muhammadu Buhari beyond his limits. Naija News reports that a statement issued on Thursday, signed by the Group’s National Coordinator, Ishaq Murtala, and the Publicity Secretary, Comfort Shainaan, the group said those pushing the President are doing so for their own selfish reasons.

Thousands of people in Germany have signed a change.org online petition in an attempt to stop the two concerts by US Singer, R.Kelly. This is coming in less than a month after Lifetime media released a trailer, showing stories of women who allegedly have been physically and emotionally and sexually abused by the singer, Naija News reports.

10. Sala: The Player’s Family And Argentina Request The Resumption Of Rescue Mission

Argentinian authorities and Emiliano Sala’s family have called for Friday to resume research after the death on Monday over the Channel of the plane that transported the 28-year-old footballer. “President Mauricio Macri has ordered Foreign Minister Jorge Faurie to make a formal request to the governments of the United Kingdom and France to request the continuation of the research,” announces a statement from the Argentine Ministry.
