Ahead of Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier game against Libya on Saturday, Super Eagles Media Officer, Toyin Ibitoye, has explained the reason behind Gernot Rohr’s decision to drop the teams captain, John Mikel Obi.

Recall that the head coach of Super Eagles, Rohr had dropped Mikel from his 24 man squad list that will play against the North Africans on Saturday.

The last time Mikel, played for Nigeria was during the summer’s 2018 FIFA World Cup.

According to Ibitoye, he claimed that Mikel has been excused from the team which will face Libya because he needs to recover from injury.

Mikel has been excused because he is just recovering from injury in China and needs time to fully regain fitness,” Ibitoye told BBC Sport.

We expect him to be available for the November game against South Africa.

The Saturday game is scheduled for the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital and the kick off time is 4pm.
