National Assembly Member-elect, Maihanchi Dies In FCT

The National Assembly has change it earlier decision to reconvene either today or tomorrow for the consideration of the supplementary budget, as hinted by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Yussuff Lasun, shortly after NASS meeting on the issue last week.

The leadership of the National Assembly has met this evening to come up with a date for the reconvening of the issue of the 2019 general election N242b supplementary budget of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Prof. Mahmud, the INEC chairman has expressed fear that the preparation for the 2019 General Election will be hampered especially as regards the purchase of sensitive materials and equipment if the supplementary INEC Budget is not looked into and promptly passed.

Naija News recalls that due to the crisis that rocked the National Assembly with the invasion of the National Assembly by the operatives of the Department of State Security, the recess of the National Assembly that should end on the 25th of September has to be partially disrupted.

With the endless series of defection and the endless threat of the impeachment of the Senate President, the crises in the National Assembly has increased uncertainty and confusion.

The Nation reports that Abdulrazak Namdas, the Chairman, House Committee on Media and Publicity, in an interview, on Monday, on phone confirmed that the National Assembly would not reconvene on Tuesday because the leadership was yet to reach a decision over it.

“We are not reconvening on Tuesday. This is because we are yet to make a decision over it, we are still meeting. As a matter of fact, the leadership will meet later on Monday or Tuesday to decide when to reconvene”. he said.

When asked if the leadership of the political parties in both chambers have formally presented their reasons to the leadership to reconvene the Assembly since there was no national media advertisement to that effect, Namdas said he believed the right steps have been taken.

Everyone is aware of the rule book said on the procedure for this sort of sitting, I believe the right steps must have been taken, no one would do anything outside what is prescribed in the rule book,” the House Spokesman added.
