10 Killed as Robbers Attack Banks In Edo State

A robbery attack at two banks in Igarra, Akoko Edo Local Government Area of Edo, has claimed the lives of at least 10 persons, News Agency of Nigeria Reports.

The bank robbers killed 10 persons including security officers attached to the banks after they invaded the community in attempt to rob the two commercial banks in the town, an incident that reportedly happened at about 5 PM.

Mr Ofei Obende, an eyewitness and resident in the community stated that the robbers initially attacked the police station in the community before they invaded the bank.

Chief Folorunsho Dania, Secretary to the Otaru of Igarra, while confirming the incident to the police hinted that about ten persons lost their lives while a police station was set ablaze by the assailants.

“This is a serious case, armed robbers have besieged Igarra so many lives killed, 10 persons have been killed.Three people were killed and in the banks too,” he said.

Mr Chidi Nwabuzor, the Public Relation Officer of the Edo State Police Command, stated that the details of the events have not gotten to him, and that he would release the necessary details later.

NAN reports that six persons were killed in a similar attack in November 2015 when armed robbers invaded the community.
