INEC Chairman, Yakubu Escapes Arrest By DSS, Police, CCB As Court Shun Petitions

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, cannot be arrested for alleged contempt of court because the warrant lacks Locus Standi.

Counsel to Prof. Yakubu, Chief Adegboyega Awomolo, (SAN) had filed an appeal at the Court of Appeal in Abuja to counter the arrest warrant.

He stated that the order of the court was not served to Prof. Yakubu as stipulated by law therefore, he could not be accused of disobeying the court.

Naija News recalls that Justice Stephen Pam of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, had issued bench warrannt against Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, for his arrogant disregard for the law by refusing to appear before the court for the third time.

Justice Pam had summoned Yakubu to explain why he should not be committed to prison for refusing to recognize the Oguebego-led faction of the PDP in Anambra State in compliance with a judgment the Supreme Court delivered in December 2014.
