1. IGP meets President Buhari behind closed doors

President Muhammadu Buhari today met with Ibrahim Idris, inspector-general of police, at the Aso rock villa in Abuja.

This is just a day after Idris summoned Senate President Bukola Saraki over the robbery in Offa, Kwara state.

2. 15 Senators dump APC in shock move

Fifteen Senators have just defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki announced the defection of the aggrieved senators on the floor of the senate during plenary on Tuesday.

3. 37 House of Rep members dump APC

37 House of Representatives members under the All Progressives Party, have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) and African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In the defection letter read on Tuesday by the Speaker of the House, Yakubu Dogara, the lawmakers cited fictionalization and division in the party as their reason for leaving.

4. EFCC invites Ekweremadu over abuse of office and money laundering

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has invited Deputy Senate President Ike Ekeweremadu over an alleged case of conspiracy, abuse of office and money laundering.

The anti-graft agency in a letter dated July 24, 2018, requested that Ekweremadu should appear at their office for interview.

5. Police deny knowledge of siege on Saraki’s residence

The Nigerian police has denied that it’s operatives are responsible for the siege laid on the Abuja residence of Senate President, Bukola Saraki in the early hours of Tuesday.

They also further stated that police personnel seen in various pictures in the media were those in the Senate President’s convoy and his security detail.

6. Senate adjourns sitting till September 25

The Nigerian Senate has announced the adjournment of it’s plenary for two months following the massive defection of fifteen different senators from the ruling All Progressive Congress.

This was part of the resolutions reached by the senators during their sitting on Tuesday.

7. Nigerian Police threaten Saraki over refusal to honour its invitation

The Nigerian police have said it “will not hesitate to use all the instruments of the law to ensure” that the President of the senate, Bukola saraki honours its invitation.

Inspector-general of police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris had asked the senate president to appear at the office of the intelligence response team (IRT) in Abuja over links to arrested suspects in the Offa bank robbery.

8. APC calms members after defection, says it still controls 25 of 36 states

Following the mass defection of some of its lawmakers to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the All Progressives Congress, APC has said it still controls 25 out of 36 states.

According to a statement signed by its national publicity secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said, the APC notes the development in the National Assembly with the defection of some of its members despite best efforts to prevent such.

9. INEC moves to make vote buying a criminal offence

The Independent National Electoral Commission has advocated that laws be made to ensure that vote buying becomes a criminal offence in order to curb the tread in the country’s political landscape.

The National Electoral Commissioner in charge of South-West, Mr Adedeji Soyebi, gave this advice in Abuja at the High-Level Post Election Roundtable on the 2018 Governorship Election in Ekiti state.

10. Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly impeached

Honourable Terkimbir Kyange, the Speaker of Benue State House of Assembly has been impeached.

Ikyange was impeached around 4:00 pm on Tuesday when about 22 of his colleague passed a vote of no confidence on him in his absence.
