N-Power Beneficiaries Want Programme Extended

The batch A beneficiaries in the teaching category of the federal government social intervention scheme, N-Power, would be concluding their two-year term by November 2018.

As the days draw closer, some of the beneficiaries as well as independent observers have begun to ask questions on what happens after two years elapse.

Administrators of the scheme have always insisted that the programme is designed for two years and applicants are fully aware of the conditions before applying for it.

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke with NAN expressed worries over their fate after the two year term expires.

Miss Doherty Christian, said she was grateful to the government for engaging her for two years but pleaded with the President Muhammadu Buhari for an extension of the programme.

Similarly, Ahmed Abdullahi, another N-Power teacher, called on the president not to disengage the teachers, adding that the ratio of teachers to students has now improved drastically.

He said rather than disengage them, the government should train and equip them, to improve the standard of education in the country.

Abdullahi said that since government was poised to improve the nation’s education, the N-Power would come handy, adding that disengaging them would do the country no good.

Meanwhile, Naija News reports that there have been calls on the federal government to convert beneficiaries of the scheme to full time employees of the government.

It however remains to be seen what government response would be.
