The Senate President, Bukola Saraki has paid off 20 months outstanding salary of some traditional chiefs in Kwara central senatorial district.

The affected local government councils which include; Ilorin East, Ilorin South and Asa could not meet their financial obligations to the monarchs as a result of the dwindling federal allocations to local governments

A total sum of N49,438,000.00 was distributed among 220 affected traditional chiefs in the areas.

The beneficiaries received their salary arrears at a brief ceremony at the ABS Constituency Office in Ilorin, the state capital on Monday.

The Alangua Ibagun, Alhaji Jimoh Alabi, who showed appreciation on behalf of the traditional rulers in Ilorin East, said they were elated with the gesture of the Senate President, saying that this would reduce their sufferings drastically.
