Court remands welders over N15m theft

Five past executive members of the Edo State Welders Association, have been remanded in police custody in line with the directive of an Edo State High Court.

The welders were alleged of stealing N15m owned by the association.

The suspects were prosecuted on Monday by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on 15 count charge on conspiracy, stealing by conversation, forgery and altering, Punch reported.

According to the anti-graft agency the suspects comprise include Andrew Egharevba, Isaac Ogundimu, John Odaro, Omorogbe Jacob and Monday Ewemade.

The commission said the ex-executives perpetuated the offences between January and December, 2016.

The charges read in part, “The offences are contrary to sections 383(1)(a), 390(9) and 516 of the Bendel State Criminal Code of 1976.”

During the trial, presided over by Justice Ohinai Ovbiadele, the accused pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them.

The case has bben adjourned till Wednesday, October 11, 2017, for hearing on the defendants’ bail application.

Consequently, Justice Ovbiadele, ruled that the accused be remanded in custody pending the adjourned date.
