Breaking: Sule Lamido arraigned in court for alleged incitement

The former Jigawa state governor, Sule Lamido, arraigned on Tuesday 2 May, before a high court in the state for alleged incitement.

Lamido had been in the custody of the Kano state police command since Sunday.

He was brought to the state high court from Kano, where he had spent some nights in detention.

Lamido was arrested after the government of Jigawa filed a petition against him for breach of public peace, and inciting violence.

Lamido has not personally reacted to the allegation.

But the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), his party, has called for his immediate release, accusing the government of stifling freedom of speech.
