Trouble For Brymo As Over 3000 Nigerians Make Move To Stop AFRIMA Win Over Anti-Igbo Comment

Nigerian singer, Olawale Ashimi, popularly known as Brymo, may probably lose the award as ‘Song Writer of the Year’ at the All Africa Music Award following a petition launched against him over his comments about Igbos on Twitter.

Naija News earlier reported that the artist, who has been against the presidential ambition of the Labour Party flagbearer, Peter Obi, came under fire for claiming that an Igbo presidency would just be a “pipe dream” because of the drive for Biafra.

“As long as there (are) talks by prominent people from Igboland about Biafra, an Igbo presidency will be a pipe dream,” he had tweeted.

Unperturbed with the heavy backlashes his tweets stirred, Brymo had blurted out against Igbos on Sunday in another tweet: ‘F*ck The Ndi Igbo !! .. To H*ll With It!!”

Following criticisms from fellow celebrities and fans, Brymo maintained his stand, adding that he was not sorry over his comments which were tagged “anti-Igbo”.

Recall in November 2022, the All Africa Music Award nominated Brymo in the ‘Song Writer of the Year’ category alongside singers from other African countries.

However, as voting for the category is ongoing, some Nigerians have signed a petition to stop the singer from winning the award.

Citing his hateful messages against the Igbos, the petition noted that not winning the award would send a strong message to the singer.

The petition, initiated by one Charles Ogundele read: “Brymo recently put up a series of hateful messages on Twitter toward the Igbo tribe of Nigeria, going as far as retweeting a tweet which said that all Igbos are senseless.

“In one of his tweets, he wrote ‘f*ck omo Igbo’, which translates to ‘f*ck the Igbo people.

“His actions are ones which spark disunity and hatred in the multicultural nation that Nigeria is.

“Preventing him from winning the All Africa Music Award would send a strong message to him, and people like him, that he can’t get away with such blatant ethnic bigotry.”

At the time of filing this report, the petition had over three thousand signatures.
