Saka excels as England defeats Iran.

England began their World Cup campaign in the most convincing manner as they defeated Iran 6 goals to 2 at the Khalifa International Stadium in the city of Al Rayyan.

Iran’s bleak situation was made worse by the early loss of goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand to concussion after a collision with a teammate as Gareth Southgate’s team cruised to victory.

Ten minutes before halftime, Jude Bellingham gave England their first World Cup goal with a powerful header from Luke Shaw’s cross. Bukayo Saka’s magnificent shot and Raheem Sterling’s graceful outside-of-the-foot volley from Harry Kane’s cross sealed the victory before the interval.

Mehdi Taremi’s wonderful goal after 65 minutes gave Iran’s fans a tremendous thrill, but England’s merciless reaction saw Saka score his second and replacement Marcus Rashford score.

After a strong run and pullback by Callum Wilson, Jack Grealish slid home from close range to round off an extraordinarily dominating performance.

In extra time, Iran did get one back when Taremi converted a penalty after John Stones was fouled.

Southgate’s men, having displayed an excellent performance in the city of Al Rayyan, now sit at the top of the Group B.

The Three Lions, however, will be looking forward to building on their victory against Iran when they face the Americans in four days’ time.
